2021-11-11Add lazy approach for handling lambdas in the HO extension (#7625)Andrew Reynolds
This adds a new option --uf-lazy-ll for not applying lambda lifting eagerly. This is motivated by HO operators in theory of bags, e.g. bag.map, which cannot answer "sat" for simple problems where lambdas are mapped to bags, due to the introduction of quantified formulas for eliminating lambdas. It moves lambda lifting from term formula removal to a utility module within TheoryUF. If lazy lambda lifting is enabled, this module does not introduce quantified formulas for lambdas eagerly. It adds 2 lemma schemas for reasoning about quantifier-free constraints with lambdas natively in TheoryUF. It extends the model construction in the HoExtension to assign lambdas in the case that an equivalence class contains a variable that is defined by a lambda.
2021-11-05Move functions and lambdas from builtin to uf (#7570)Andrew Reynolds
This is in preparation for adding better native support for handling lambdas in the higher-order extension of the UF theory. We require that LAMBDA and function types belong to theory UF so that the theory solver is properly notified. This also splits the utility methods for computing whether a function is "constant" to its own file. This PR is code move only.
2021-10-21Make cardinality constraint a nullary operator (#7333)Andrew Reynolds
This makes cardinality constraints nullary operators. This eliminates hacks for supporting these previously. It also removes an unimplemented kind CARDINALITY_VALUE. Notice that the parser and printer now do not use a common syntax for cardinality constraints, this will be resolved on followup PRs.
2021-04-01Rename namespace CVC5 to cvc5. (#6258)Aina Niemetz
2021-03-31Rename namespace CVC4 to CVC5. (#6249)Aina Niemetz
2020-08-21Remove spurious theory methods calls (#4931)Andrew Reynolds
This PR removes spurious theory method calls that are not implemented. It also renames a common "propagate(TNode lit)" pattern to "propagateLit(TNode lit)" to avoid confusion with "propagate(Effort e)".
2018-09-17Decision strategy: incorporate UF with cardinality constraints (#2476)Andrew Reynolds
2017-09-13Add new kinds required for higher-order. (#1083)Andrew Reynolds
This consists of a binary apply symbol HO_APPLY that returns the result of applying its first argument to its second argument. Update the UF rewriter to ensure that non-standard APPLY_UF applications are rewritten into curried applications of HO_APPLY.

2013-11-19Add fair strategy for finite model finding multiple sorts --uf-ss-fair.Andrew Reynolds
2012-12-01drastic simplification of quantifiers code regarding equality queries, ↵Andrew Reynolds
instantiation strategies moved from instantiators to central instantiation engine, removed instantiator objects, simplified rewrite rules candidate generator to use central equality engine, efficient e-matching now uses central equality engine
2012-08-31merge from fmf-devel branch. more updates to models: now with ↵Andrew Reynolds
collectModelInfo with fullModel argument, most theory-specific implementation out of the model class, model printer relegated to printer classes. Also updates to finite mode finding, modifications to datatypes making them compatible with theory combination, support for theory-specific handling of user attributes, refactoring of uf models
2012-08-16Replace propagateAsDecision() with Theory::getNextDecisionRequest():Morgan Deters
* arrays now uses the new approach by using a CDQueue<> * uf strong solver has had the feature disabled, pending a merge from Andy * theory kinds files now have a getNextDecisionRequest property (if you want to take part in such decision requests you have to list that property) * the staticLearning property has been renamed ppStaticLearn to match the function name * theory kinds files are now checked again for correctly-declared properties (this had been disabled) * minor documentation and other fixups
2012-07-12merged fmf-devel branch, includes support for SMT2 command get-value and ↵Andrew Reynolds
(extended) SMT command get-model. added collectModelInfo and removed getValue from theory interface. merge also includes major updates to finite model finding module (from CASC), added fmf options, some updates to strong solver and quantifiers engine interface. The test recursion_breaker_black currently fails for me on production builds, Morgan is planning to look into this.
2012-06-11Merge from quantifiers2-trunkmerge branch.Morgan Deters
Adds TheoryQuantifiers and TheoryRewriteRules, QuantifiersEngine, and other infrastructure. Adds theory instantiators to many theories. Adds the UF strong solver.
2011-09-15additional stuff for sharing, Dejan Jovanović
2011-09-02Merge from my post-smtcomp branch. Includes:Morgan Deters
Dumping infrastructure. Can dump preprocessed queries and clauses. Can also dump queries (for testing with another solver) to see if any conflicts are missed, T-propagations are missed, all lemmas are T-valid, etc. For a full list of options see --dump=help. CUDD building much cleaner. Documentation and assertion fixes. Printer improvements, printing of commands in language-defined way, etc. Typechecker stuff in expr package now autogenerated, no need to manually edit the expr package when adding a new theory. CVC3 compatibility layer (builds as libcompat). SWIG detection and language binding support (infrastructure). Support for some Z3 extended commands (like datatypes) in SMT-LIBv2 mode (when not in compliance mode). Copyright and file headers regenerated.
2011-08-24Simplification of the preregister and register throught a NodeVisitor class. ↵Dejan Jovanović
The theoryOf is not all in one place, theory::theoryOf. The uninterpreted sorts belong to the builtin theory and are dispatched to the apropriate theory (QF_UF, QF_AX) through theoryOf based on the setting in the Theory class.
2011-04-25Monday tasks:Morgan Deters
* new "well-foundedness" type property (like cardinality) specified in Theory kinds files; specifies well-foundedness and a ground term * well-foundedness / finite checks in Datatypes now superseded by type system isFinite(), isWellFounded(), mkGroundTerm(). * new "RecursionBreaker" template class, a convenient class that keeps a "seen" trail without you having to pass it around (which is difficult in cases of mutual recursion) of the idea of passing around a "seen" trail
2011-04-25Weekend work. The main points:Morgan Deters
* Type::getCardinality() returns the cardinality for for all types. Theories give a cardinality in the their kinds file. For cardinalities that depend on a type argument, a "cardinality computer" function is named in the kinds file, which takes a TypeNode and returns its cardinality. * There's a bitmap for the set of "active theories" in the TheoryEngine. Theories become "active" when a term that is owned by them, or whose type is owned by them, is pre-registered (run CVC4 with --verbose to see theory activation). Non-active theories don't get any calls for check() or propagate() or anything, and if we're running in single-theory mode, the shared term manager doesn't have to get involved. This is really important for get() performance (which can only skimp on walking the entire sub-DAG only if the theory doesn't require it AND the shared term manager doesn't require it). * TheoryEngine now does not call presolve(), registerTerm(), notifyRestart(), etc., on a Theory if that theory doesn't declare that property in its kinds file. To avoid coding errors, mktheorytraits greps the theory header and gives warnings if: + the theory appears to declare one of the functions (check, propagate, etc.) that isn't listed among its kinds file properties (but probably should be) + the theory appears NOT to declare one of the functions listed in its kinds file properties * some bounded token stream work
2011-01-05Commit for the theory engine and rewriter changes. Changes are substantial ↵Dejan Jovanović
and not yet finalized but I need to put it in to work further with the theory writers. Please check the files that you 'own'. Any comments or discussion is welcome. Further details will be coming in a follow up email later.

2010-10-05parser and core support for SMT-LIBv2 commands get-info, set-option, ↵Morgan Deters
get-option, get-assertions, get-value, define-sort, define-fun, and declare-sort with arity > 0; SmtEngine doesn't yet support most of these, but will shortly...
2010-07-02* Added white-box TheoryEngine test that tests the rewriterMorgan Deters
* Added regression documentation to test/regress/README * Added ability to print types of vars in expr printouts with iomanipulator Node::printtypes(true)... for example, Warning() << Node::printtypes(true) << n << std::endl; * Types-printing can be specified on the command line with --print-expr-types * Improved type handling facilities and theoryOf(). For now, SORT_TYPE moved from builtin theory to UF theory to match old behavior. * Additional gdb debug functionality. Now we have: debugPrintNode(Node) debugPrintRawNode(Node) debugPrintTNode(TNode) debugPrintRawTNode(TNode) debugPrintTypeNode(TypeNode) debugPrintRawTypeNode(TypeNode) debugPrintNodeValue(NodeValue*) debugPrintRawNodeValue(NodeValue*) they all print a {Node,TNode,NodeValue*} from the debugger. The "Raw" versions print a very low-level AST-like form. The regular versions do the same as operator<<, but force full printing on (no depth-limiting). * Other trivial fixes
2010-04-29Added the capability to construct expressions by passing the operator ↵Dejan Jovanović
instead of the kind, i.e. Expr op = ..."f"... em.mkExpr(op, children); Operator kinds are automatically associated with the enclosing expression kind in the DSL and generated.
2010-03-30Highlights of this commit are:Morgan Deters
* add NodeManagerWhite unit test * change kind::APPLY to kind::APPLY_UF * better APPLY handling: operators are no longer considered children * more efficient pool lookup; the NodeValue doesn't have to be as fully constructed for the lookup to proceed * extend DSL for kind declarations + new "theory" command declares a theory and its header. theory_def.h no longer required. + arity enforced on operators + constant mapping, hashing, equality * CONSTANT metakinds supported (via Node::getConst<T>(), for example, Node::getConst<CVC4::Rational>() gets a Rational out of a Node (assuming it is of CONST_RATIONAL kind) * added CONST_RATIONAL and CONST_INTEGER kinds * builtin operators (AND, OR, PLUS, etc..) returned by Node::getOperator() are now CONSTANT metakind and are created by NodeManager * Pretty-printing of Nodes now has a depth limit settable by a stream manipulator (e.g. "cout << Node::setdepth(5) << m << endl;" prints DAG rooted at m to a depth of 5) * getters added to Node, TNode, NodeValue, etc., for operators and metakinds * build-time generators for kind.h, metakind.h, and theoryof_table.h headers now have a simpler design and flag errors better, and the templates (kind_template.h etc.) are easier to understand. * DISTINCT is now a kind, and the SMT parser now passes through DISTINCT nodes instead of blowing them up into ANDs. Until theory rewriting is online, though, DISTINCTs are directly blown up into conjunctions in TheoryEngine::rewrite(). * add gmpxx detection and inclusion * better Asserts throughout, some documentation, cleanup
2010-03-25new domain-specific language for kinds files: permits characterization of ↵Morgan Deters
different "kinds of kinds" (special, operator, parameterized, and constant), and permits doxygen comments on them
2010-02-04Added theory output channel interfaces and "Interrupted" exception.Morgan Deters
Updated contrib/update-copyright to handle Antlr (.g) parser/lexer inputs. Updated copyright year. Added a new "bool" theory (right now just to hold a kind.h contribution). Added "kinds" files to UF and the new "bool" theory.
