2020-09-22Update copyright header script to support CMake and Python files (#5067)Mathias Preiner
This PR updates the update-copyright.pl script to also update/add copyright headers to CMake specific files. It further fixes a small typo in the header.
2020-09-16Dump commands in internal code using command printing functions. (#5040)Abdalrhman Mohamed
This is work towards migrating commands to the new API. Internal code that creates command objects just for dumping is replaced with direct calls to functions that print the those commands.
2020-09-14Move quantifiers engine private to own file (#5053)Andrew Reynolds
This moves and renames the quantifiers engine private class to QuantifiersModules. This is in preparation for using a standard state and inference manager object in TheoryQuantifiers and QuantifiersEngine. Initializing quantifiers engine is a bit non-standard since it is intentionally a separate entity from TheoryQuantifiers. However, the plan is for quantifiers engine to use the state and inference manager of TheoryQuantifiers. This PR additionally moves the initialization of quantifiers modules to a QuantifiersEngine::finishInit() method. The motivation for is that we do not have a state and inference manager during construction of QuantifiersEngine, since these will live in TheoryQuantifiers and will be passed to QuantifiersEngine during TheoryQuantifiers::finishInit. This means that we need a final pass to initialize quantifiers engine after these are initialized, which thus must come as the last step of TheoryEngine::finishInit. The next PR will connect the state and inference manager to QuantifiersEngine during TheoryQuantifiers::finishInit. Then, the plan is for many of the core utilities in QuantifiersEngine to migrate to state/inference manager, and finally for its modules to reference state and inference manager instead of QuantifiersEngine.
2020-09-14Fix needsModel method for CEGQI (#5048)Andrew Reynolds
There was a bug in CEGQI's needModel method which could say that it doesnt need a model built when there are no active quantifiers. However, computing active quantifiers is not done in QuantifiersEngine::check until after this method is called, meaning it was using stale data on whether a quantifier was active or not. This could lead to the use of bogus models in CEGQI in incremental mode in some corner cases, leading to the assertion failure in #5019. Fixes #5019.
2020-09-14Interpolation: Add implementation for SyGuS interpolation module (final) (#5063)Ying Sheng
Add interface for SyGuS Interpolation module. Adding the API for (get-interpol s B), which is aim for computes an I that A->I and I->B. Here A is the assertions in the stack.
2020-09-11Move finite model minimization to UF last call effort (#5050)Andrew Reynolds
This moves model minimization happen in TheoryUF's last call effort check instead of being a custom call in quantifiers finite model finding. This is both a better design and avoids bugs when quantifiers are not enabled (for QF_UF+cardinality constraints). Fixes #4850.
2020-09-09Fixes for regular expressions + sygus (#5044)Andrew Reynolds
Includes not constructing a default value for non-first class types (e.g. RegLan) and a missing printer case for re.diff.
2020-09-03Minor cleanup of quantifiers engine (#4994)Andrew Reynolds
Eventually, QuanitifersEngine should not depend on TheoryEngine. This is a first step in this direction. It eliminates some uses of TheoryEngine and eliminates a unnecessary friend relationship between quantifiers::TermDb and TheoryEngine. Further refactoring will be done in future PRs.
2020-09-02(proof-new) Support proofs of quantifier instantiation (#5001)Andrew Reynolds
This adds basic support for proofs of quantifier instantiation, which is the main method for sending lemmas from TheoryQuantifiers. Quantifier instantiation is also heavily used for solving extended string functions.
2020-09-01Removes old proof code (#4964)Haniel Barbosa
This deletes much of the old proof code. Basically everything but the minimal necessary infra-structure for producing unsat cores. That includes dependency tracking in preprocessing, the prop engine proof and the unsat core computation code in the old proof manager. These should also go once we fully integrate into master the new proof infrastructure. It also cleans interfaces that were using old-proof-code-specific constructs (such as LemmaProofRecipe). When possible or when it made sense standalone local proof production code was kept, but deactivated (such is in the equality engine and in the arithmetic solver).
2020-08-28Replace Theory::Set with TheoryIdSet (#4959)Andrew Reynolds
This makes it so that equality_engine.h does not include theory.h. This is a bad dependency since Theory contains EqualityEngine. This dependency between equality engine and theory was due to the use of a helper (Theory::Set) for representing sets of theories that is inlined into Theory. This PR moves this definition and utilities to theory_id.h. It fixes the resulting include dependencies which are broken by changing the include theory.h -> theory_id.h in equality_engine.h. This avoids a circular dependency in the includes between Theory -> InferenceManager -> ProofEqualityEngine -> EqualityEngine -> Theory.
2020-08-28(new theory) Update TheoryQuantifiers to the new interface (#4950)Andrew Reynolds
TheoryQuantifiers is a theory that passes quantified formulas to QuantifiersEngine. This updates it to the new check template (see #4929). Also does some minor cleanup in the cpp file.
2020-08-25Replace Expr-level datatype with Node-level DType (#4875)Andrew Reynolds
This PR makes two simultaneous changes: The new API uses Node-level DType instead of Expr-level Datatype. This required converting 2 of the last remaining calls in the parser that used Expr to use the new API. Internally constructed datatypes (e.g. for sygus) use Node-level DType instead of Expr-level Datatype. Note this required moving a block of code for handling a corner case of sygus from Datatype -> DType. This PR removes : ExprManger::mkDatatypeType. The Expr-level datatype itself. This PR removes all references to its include file. It also updates one remaining unit test from Expr -> Node. This PR will enable further removal of other datatype-specific things in the Expr layer.
2020-08-20Add TheoryState objects to each Theory (#4920)Andrew Reynolds
This initializes all theories with a TheoryState object (apart from bool and builtin which do not require one). Two additional theories are known to require special state objects: TheoryArith, which has a custom way of detecting when in conflict, and TheoryQuantifiers, which can leverage a special state object for the purposes of refactoring and splitting apart QuantifiersEngine further. All other theories use default TheoryState objects. Notice this PR does not update the theories to use these states yet, it simply adds the objects.
2020-08-20Split QuantElimSolver from SmtEngine (#4919)Andrew Reynolds
Towards refactoring SmtEngine / converting Expr -> Node.
2020-08-19Simplify trigger notifications in equality engine (#4921)Andrew Reynolds
This is further work towards a centralized approach for equality engines. This PR merges the eqNotifyTriggerEquality callback with the eqNotifyTriggerPredicate callback, and adds assertions that capture the current behavior. It furthermore makes addTriggerEquality private in equality engine and invoked as a special case of addTriggerPredicate. Note this PR does not impact the internal implementation of these methods in equality engine, which indeed is different. There are two reasons to merge these callbacks: (1) all theories implement exactly the same method for the two callbacks, whenever they implement both. It would be trivial to do something different (by case splitting on the kind of predicate that is being notified), and moreover it is not recommended they do anything other than immediately propagate the predicate (regardless of whether it is an equality). (2) It leads to some confusion with eqNotifyTriggerTermEquality, which is invoked when two trigger terms are merged.
2020-08-18Split SygusSolver from SmtEngine (#4891)Andrew Reynolds
This is the solver for standard SyGuS queries. Notice it now depends only on SmtSolver and not SmtEngine. This PR updates Expr -> Node for the sygus interface in SmtEngine. SmtEnginePrivate is no longer needed and is deleted with this PR.
2020-08-17Dynamic allocation of equality engine in Theory (#4890)Andrew Reynolds
This commit updates Theory so that equality engines are allocated dynamically. The plan is to make this configurable based on the theory combination method. The fundamental changes include: - Add `d_equalityEngine` (raw) pointer to Theory, which is the "official" equality engine of the theory. - Standardize methods for initializing Theory. This is now made more explicit in the documentation in theory.h, and includes a method `finishInitStandalone` for users of Theory that don't have an associated TheoryEngine. - Refactor TheoryEngine::finishInit, including how Theory is initialized to incorporate the new policy. - Things related to master equality engine are now specific to EqEngineManagerDistributed and hence can be removed from TheoryEngine. This will be further refactored in forthcoming PRs. Note that the majority of changes are due to changing `d_equalityEngine.` to `d_equalityEngine->` throughout.
2020-08-14Simplify equality engine notifications (#4896)Andrew Reynolds
Previously, there was methods for being informed just before and just after equivalence classes are merged (eqNotifyPreMerge and eqNotifyPostMerge). The purpose of this was to allow e.g. the theory to inspect the equivalence classes in question before the equality engine modified them. However this is no longer used, and moreover is discouraged since Theory should generally buffer their usage of EqualityEngine while it is making internal calls. TheoryStrings was the only theory to use eqNotifyPreMerge (somewhat arbitrarily), all others used eqNotifyPostMerge. This makes post-merge the default, renames it to eqNotifyMerge and removes pre notifications. This will simplify the work of the new theory combination methods as well as leading to fewer spurious calls to callbacks in equality engine.
2020-08-13Fixes for corner case of decision tree learning with different types (#4887)Andrew Reynolds
There was a last minute change was a typo when merging 103b5ea . Also the fix in that commit needed to be slightly more robust to the case when either branch of an ITE had a different sygus type. Fixes regress1.
2020-08-12Fixes for degenerate case of sygus decision tree learning (#4800)Andrew Reynolds
Fixes #4790. Fixes two bugs in the decision tree learning solver for sygus, one involving evaluation of "templated" enumerators, and one involving ITE strategies where child types are different than the root.
2020-08-11Remove instantiation model true option (#4861)Andrew Reynolds
This was an option that rejected instantiations that are true according to the current model's equality engine. This option was never helpful and will be burdensome to maintain with new updates to equality engine infrastructure.
2020-08-09Make valuation class more robust to null underlying TheoryEngine. (#4864)Andrew Reynolds
In some use cases (unit tests, old proofs infrastructure), we use a Theory with no associated TheoryEngine. This PR makes the Valuation class more robust to this case. This includes making the "unevaluated kinds" a no-op in this case (this is necessary for Theory::finishInit with no TheoryEngine) and adding some assertions to cases that the Theory should never call without TheoryEngine. This is required for a new policy for dynamically configuring equality engine infrastructure in Theory.
2020-08-07Move datatype index constant to its own file (#4859)Andrew Reynolds
Towards removing the Expr-level datatype. Moves DatatypeIndex to its own file, which is the only thing that is necessary remaining from expr/datatype.h. Also updates the datatype kinds file in preparation for the removal.
2020-08-06Split preprocessor from SmtEngine (#4854)Andrew Reynolds
This splits a collection of utilities from SmtEngine that work in cooperation to preprocess assertions (Boolean circuit propagator, preprocessing context, process assertions, term formula removal). It updates various interfaces in SmtEngine from Expr -> Node and simplifies SmtEngine to use this utility.
2020-08-03Add implementation for SyGuS interpolation module (step4) (#4811)Ying Sheng
This is the 4th step of adding interface for SyGuS Interpolation module. The whole change will be adding the API for (get-interpol s B), which is aim for computes an I that A->I and I->B. Here A is the assertions in the stack. The 4th step finished the implementation of the interpolation module.
2020-08-03Generalize interface for candidate rewrite database (#4797)Andrew Reynolds
This class will be used as a utility in a new algorithm for solution reconstruction and requires a generalized interface. FYI @abdoo8080
2020-07-30Fix null case for sygus printing (#4793)Andrew Reynolds
Avoids crashing on some of our debug traces.
2020-07-28fixing issue #4808. (#4810)Ying Sheng
fixing issue #4808. Remove structural binding, which only supported by c++17.
2020-07-28Interpolation: Add interface for SyGuS interpolation module (step3) (#4726)Ying Sheng
This is the 3rd step of adding interface for SyGuS Interpolation module. The whole change will be adding the API for (get-interpol s B), which is aim for computes an I that A->I and I->B. Here A is the assertions in the stack. The 3rd step partially implemented the interpolation module.
2020-07-28Use lemma property enum for OutputChannel::lemma (#4755)Andrew Reynolds
There are 3 Boolean flags for OutputChannel::lemma, and plans to add another for relevance. This makes them into a enum.
2020-07-17Enumerate shapes feature in fast sygus enumerator (#4742)Andrew Reynolds
This adds the feature of enumerating shapes in the fast sygus enumerator, which is required for a new algorithm for sygus solution reconstruction. This also adds a builtinToSygus backwards mapping that is required for that algorithm as well. Note this also changes the implementation of mkFreeVar in sygus term database from skolem to bound variable, which is required to do proper caching for expr::hasBoundVar.
2020-07-15Use Nodes for SmtEngine assertions (#4752)Andres Noetzli
This commit changes SmtEngine::assertFormula() to use Nodes rather than Exprs and changes AssertionList to be Node-based. This is work towards removing the Expr layer.
2020-07-14Remove sygus print callback (#4727)Andrew Reynolds
This removes sygus print callbacks, since they are no longer necessary to support the sygus v1 parser. This involved generalizing the scope of the datatype utility sygusToBuiltin. Now, printing "as sygus" simply is accomplished by doing sygusToBuiltin conversion and then calling the printer on the builtin term. This is required for further work towards eliminating the Expr layer. FYI @4tXJ7f
2020-07-13Debug instantiations output (#4739)Andrew Reynolds
This prints # instantiations per round (during solving) for each quantified formula with `--debug-inst`, giving output like this: ``` (num-instantiations myQuant1 1) (num-instantiations myQuant2 1) unsat ``` It also changes the default value of print-inst-full to match the behavior of unsat-cores vs unsat-cores-full (by default, nameless quantifiers are ignored). It fixes an issue with qid, where mkVar was accidentally used instead of mkConst, leading to assertion failures in debug. Marking major since this fixes debug regress1.
2020-07-13Minor refactoring of subsolver initialization (#4731)Andrew Reynolds
This decouples asserting a formula with initialization (previously it was a complex process to assert a formula due to having to clone/export to a new ExprManager). Now it is trivial. This commit fixes an unintended consequence of the previous complications. Previously, SmtEngine::setOption would be set after asserting formulas to an SmtEngine subsolver, which is technically incorrect, as options should be finalized before the first assert. This is required for further cleaning up of options listeners.
2020-07-13Fix whitespace issue in instantiations output. (#4737)Andrew Reynolds
Fixes regress1.
2020-07-13 User-facing print debug option for sygus candidates (#4720)Andrew Reynolds
This makes an option --debug-sygus available to the user for tracing the sygus solver. For the classic max2 example the option is: (sygus-enum 0) (sygus-candidate (max 0)) (sygus-enum 0) (sygus-enum 1) (sygus-enum x) (sygus-enum x) (sygus-candidate (max x)) (sygus-enum x) (sygus-enum y) (sygus-enum y) (sygus-candidate (max y)) (sygus-enum y) (sygus-enum (+ x x)) (sygus-enum (+ x 1)) (sygus-enum (+ 1 1)) ... (sygus-enum (ite (<= x y) y 1)) (sygus-candidate (max (ite (<= x y) y 1))) (sygus-enum (ite (<= x y) y 1)) (sygus-enum (ite (<= x y) y x)) (sygus-enum (ite (<= x y) y x)) (sygus-enum (ite (<= x y) y x)) (sygus-candidate (max (ite (<= x y) y x))) unsat (define-fun max ((x Int) (y Int)) Int (ite (<= x y) y x)) Where sygus-enum denotes enumerated terms and sygus-candidate is one that passes a CEGIS refinement check.
2020-07-13Statistics on instantiations per quantified formula. (#4719)Andrew Reynolds
This adds a new print format for instantiations --print-instantiations=num, which prints the total number of instantations of quantified formulas. This count is user-context-dependent, which is in sync with the existing print-instantiation format (list). It also simplifies and improves printing of Instantiation Tries.
2020-07-10(proof-new) Update Theory interface for proof-new (#4648)Andrew Reynolds
This includes 4 changes: Theory constructor takes a ProofNodeManager, Theory::explain returns a TrustNode (of kind PROP_EXP), Theory::expandDefinitions returns a TrustNode (of kind REWRITE), Theory::ppRewrite returns a TrustNode (of kind REWRITE). These are all currently planned updates to the interface of Theory. This PR also connects some of the existing proof rule checkers into the proof checker, if one is provided to the constructor. It updates TheoryEngine and other places to process TrustNode in trivial ways (converting them into Node). These calls will later be updated as needed for proof support. This PR is also contingent on the performance tests for proof-new on SMT-LIB.
2020-07-10[Interpolation] Add interface for SyGuS interpolation module (#4677)Ying Sheng
This is the second step of adding Interpolation. The whole change will be adding the API for (get-interpol s B), which is aim for computes an I that A->I and I->B. Here A is the assertions in the stack. The second step creates the component for computing interpolation, while omits the implementation.
2020-07-07Transfer ownership of internal Options from NodeManager to SmtEngine (#4682)Andrew Reynolds
This PR decouples Options from NodeManager. Instead, options now live in SmtEngine. The changes that were required for this PR include: The main internal options object is now owned by SmtEngine instead of ExprManager. The ownership resource manager is moved from NodeManager to SmtEngine. Node manager listeners are deleted, timeouts and resource limits are set during SmtEngine::finishInit. A temporary hack was added to make the last constructed SmtEngine to be the one in scope. This ensures that options are in scope whenever an SmtEngine is created. The methods for invoking "subsolvers" (theory/smt_engine_subsolver.h,cpp) was simplified, as versions of these calls that change options do not have to clone a new copy of the ExprManager anymore. Resource manager was removed from the smt2 parser. Minor refactoring was done in SmtEngine to copy "original options" so that options are restored to their state after parsing command line options on reset. Updates to unit tests to ensure conformance to new options scoping.
2020-07-06Front end support for sequences (#4690)Andrew Reynolds
With this PR, we now support a preliminary draft of a theory of sequences. This PR adds front end support for sequences in the smt2 parser, in the new API, adds regressions and unit tests for them. As discussed offline, many of the string kinds are given a sequence version in the external API, but not in the internal one. This means that a special case for such kinds, getKindHelper was added to Term. We do not yet support proper smt2 printing of sequences, which will require access to this code for Kind conversions (to distinguish e.g. str.++ from seq.++).
2020-06-29Make ExprManager constructor private (#4669)Andres Noetzli
This commit makes the ExprManager constructor private and updates the initialization of subsolvers, unit tests, and system tests accordingly. This is a step towards making options part of SmtEngine instead of NodeManager.
2020-06-19Convert more uses of strings to words (#4584)Andrew Reynolds
Towards theory of sequences. This PR also adds support for sequences in default sygus grammars. Also removes an interface for mkEmptyWord which doesn't have an equivalent for sequences.
2020-06-17Do not traverse WITNESS for partial substitutions in extended rewriter (#4630)Andrew Reynolds
Fixes #4620. The extended rewrite (and A B) ---> (and A (B * { A -> true } ) triggers an unsoundness when B contains witness terms. More generally, contextual substitution into witness terms is unsound since the skolemization of witness terms is added globally whereas the substitution corresponds to a fact that holds locally. This means that A -> true above may be added as a global constraint indirectly through witness skolemization. A general example of this unsoundness: (or (and (>= x 0) (P (witness ((z Int)) (=> (>= x 0) (= (* z z) x))))) F) rewrites to (or (and (>= x 0) (P (witness ((z Int)) (= (* z z) x)))) F) preprocesses to (and (or (and (>= x 0) (P k)) F) (= (* k k) x)) which now implies that (>= x 0) by the last conjunct, whereas this was not implied in the original formula This PR limits the kinds that can be traversed when applying substitutions in the extended rewriter, including from the rewrite above. In particular, the fix ensures that the partialSubstitute method is used in the extended rewriter when applicable, which now explicitly disallows recursion on WITNESS. Notice that this fixes contextual substitutions in the extended rewriter, but does not fix the more general issue. In particular, we still should be careful to check if contextual substitutions are applied by any other preprocessing passes.
2020-06-17Improve polynomial anyterm grammar (#3566)Haniel Barbosa
This changes the grammar construction in the case of anyterm + polynomial grammar so that the binary predicates EQUAL and LEQ are changed to unary predicates lambda x : ANYTERM. P(x, ZERO) rather than lambda xy. P(ANYTERM, ANYTERM), in which ZERO is a 0 constant of the respective type. Currently integer and bit-vectors are supported for this transformation. This avoid enumerating spurious terms and can lead to significant improvements in enumeration (although not necessarily in solving speed given the current unstable nature of ANYTERM usage).
2020-06-16Update copyright headers.Aina Niemetz
2020-06-15(proof-new) Add quantifiers proof checker (#4593)Andrew Reynolds
Adds core rules for quantifiers, some of which also will be used as a general way for introducing and skolemizing witness terms. This PR also changes the order of other rules in proof_rule.h/cpp which was in an abnormal order from previous merges.
2020-06-12Move sygus datatype utility functions to their own file (#4595)Andrew Reynolds
Separates them from the core datatype utilities. Code move only.
